Pierre Chapo Sideboard

Pierre Chapo – R13 Sideboard, France, c. 1980
The architectural warmth of solid elm

A striking example of Pierre Chapo’s approach to solid wood furniture, this R13 sideboard combines imposing proportions with a remarkably refined sense of structure. Crafted in solid elm, its substantial 5 cm-thick construction gives the piece a strong architectural presence, while the natural grain of the wood brings warmth and depth to its geometric form.

The cabinet opens with two doors and seven drawers, offering generous and practical storage without compromising its sculptural character. Designed around the inherent qualities of solid wood, the R13 reflects Chapo’s distinctive modernist language: functional, robust and deeply connected to the material itself.

Dating from circa 1980, this piece comes from the complete furnishings of a private residence in the Île-de-France region. It remains in good overall vintage condition, with some signs of age and use, including damage to one drawer.
