Pierre Casenove - Pair of “Totem”

Pierre Casenove – Pair of “Totem” Sculptures, France, 1980s
Sculptural figures in gilded bronze

A striking pair of “Totem” sculptures by French sculptor and designer Pierre Casenove, combining the expressive qualities of sculpture with the functionality of decorative objects. Executed in gilded bronze, each totem depicts a slender female figure whose elongated silhouette rises from a faceted base towards an integrated candle holder.

Casenove’s stylised treatment of the human form gives these pieces a distinctive architectural presence. The fluid curves of the figures contrast with the geometric bases, while the gilded surface catches and reflects the light, enhancing both the sensuality and sculptural quality of the composition.

Produced by the renowned French foundry Fondica, the pair is signed “Case/Nove/Fondica France”. These works exemplify Casenove’s distinctive approach to functional sculpture, in which the human figure, decorative arts and everyday objects converge.
